Shopping – Our Villages
Yarraville Village
Yarraville has been compared to many of the
great contemporary cultural villages of the Western World, but
locals reject any such comparisons. Located 10 minutes from the
bustling metropolis that is Melbourne’s CBD, Yarraville
has a unique character and an increasingly rare quality of village
life.
Picturesque Anderson and Ballarat Streets, in
the heart of the Yarraville Village, are lined with delightfully
refurbished 19th century buildings and dotted with quaint neighbourhood
cafés, restaurants and shops.
Yarraville’s main attraction is its beautifully
restored are-deco cinema, the Sun Theatre. Originally opened in
1938 it sat a whopping 1050 patrons. The Sun Theatre has since
lived an enormously colourful life and today the Sun Theatre is
an icon of Melbourne’s film community.
What is a good movie without a great meal to
complete the experience? The Yarraville Village is home to numerous
award winning restaurants and cafes. A true reflection of Melbourne’s
multicultural nature, Yarraville offers you an array of world
cuisines including Greek, Italian, Modern Asian, Cambodian, Chinese
and Modern Australian.
The Yarraville Village is unlike anywhere else.
It’s unconventional; it has its own colours, scent and flavours.
Take a walk though our unique part of the world and buy a book
or the work of a local artist, or, simply sit for a coffee and
watch us locals do what we locals do.
Within very easy access from Melbourne’s
CBD via car or train the Yarraville Village experience will take
you by surprise.
