Shopping - Our Villages

Altona Beach Village

Tucked away in a peaceful pocket of Port Phillip Bay, Altona Beach Village is reminiscent of the days when everyone knew everyone in the local shopping centre.

Altona’s history as a sleepy seaside village is still evident today.  From the leafy street lined shopping strip, the old pier at the end of Pier Street stretches into the water for some 300 metres.  The pier has been used by anglers, swimmers and tourists alike for decades.  A walk along it’s planks is the perfect way to end a bout of shopping or after enjoying a meal at one of Altona’s cafes or restaurants.

Opposite the beach, Logan Reserve was originally the front yard of Altona’s first European settler, whose Homestead still stands today, overlooking the sea as it has done since the late 1800’s.  Altona’s Historical Society is now housed in this fully restored building which is well worth a look during your visit.

A unique and vibrant street market is held every Tuesday (9am-3pm) in Pier and Railway Streets, offering a variety of art, craft and fresh produce.

A short train trip from the city on the Werribee line will get you to Altona Beach, or alternatively it’s easily accessed off the Westgate Freeway via Millers Road (Melways Reference 54 H 11).
