Housed at Point Cook, the birthplace of the
Australian Flying Corps (predecessor of the Royal Australian Air Force), the RAAF Museum
tells one of Australia's most important stories, that of the second
oldest air force in the world.
Experience a fully operational RAAF flying unit
where you can watch technicians restore and maintain the fleet
of airworthy aircraft, including a WWII Mk 23 Mustang. You'll
find the 85 year history of the most exciting machines ever built
and the stories of the daring men who flew them.
The latest in multimedia technology and display
techniques will take visitors back to RAAF's beginning in World
War I, through to today's modern and sophisticated fighting force.
There are also displays of memorabilia and artefacts. Display hangers are filled with superbly preserved
aircraft, including a fighter jet hanger, jet engines and detailed
model aircraft.
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1pm, see a heritage aircraft in flight and learn about the process in close-up detail. This program enables visitors to see, hear and smell what flying is all about. Best of all, it is absolutely free! Bookings are not required.
The souvenir shop offers badges, clothing, books,
model kits and more. Refreshments are available from the base.
Entry to the museum is Free of Charge. Special weekday
tours are available by appointment.
Please note that the museum is located within an operational Air Force base, and visitors over 18 will need photo ID to enter the base.
