The Truganina Coastal Parklands are on the shores of Port Phillip Bay in Altona, about 15 kms from central Melbourne. The parklands are being developed through the 'recycling' of over 300 hectares of former industrial land. The area retains a surprising amount of natural environment, and is fast becoming a major new recreation destination for Melbourne.
The parklands comprise a number of adjoining parks and reserves, and feature a variety of landscapes and recreation areas, including conservation zones, grassy fields, picnic & barbecue areas, wildlife refuges, and beachside recreation. They are the largest cluster of parks on Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne, and are linked by the cycling and walking track the extends from Williamstown to Skeleton Creek.
The lookout at Truganina Park, featuring the 'Time Beacon' sculpture, is a wonderful place to take in the fantastic views of the city and bay.
